The author investigated how the link between education and assortative mating changed in Switzerland between 1970 and 2000 as the country’s educational system expanded. The overall rate of educationally homogamous partnerships remained quite stable. However, many people remained without a partner became less educationally selective. The study found that the tendency toward educationally homogamous partnerships was most prominent in lower educational groups, but the inequalities across educational groups had lessened over time.
