Ahmad, A. M. (1994). The erotic and the pornographic in Arab culture. The British Journal of Aesthetics34(3), 278-285.

Author reviews the concepts of erotic and pornographic in Arab culture. The literature of Arab culture has traditionally distinguished between the erotic and the pornographic. The visual arts did not make such distinction. Erotic literature, such as the poetry of Ka’b ibn Zuhayr and Hassan ibn Thabit, is highly valued. However, similar visual representations would be considered pornographic. Author believe that extending appreciation for the erotic into the visual arts could enrich Arab culture.
