Badahdah, A. M., & Tiemann, K. A. (2005). Mate selection criteria among Muslims living in America. Evolution and Human Behavior26(5), 432-440.

Article stated that the studies of sex differences in partner preferences have conducted primarily in Western societies. And the few cross-cultural studies neglected to explore how religion influences mate preferences.

Author analyzed 500 personal ads placed by Muslims in the US and found no significant sex differences in seeking a physically appealing partner. However, men, more often than women, sought mates younger than themselves.

Results showed that women mentioned their personal physical attractiveness more often than men did. Women significantly, more than men, advertised their religiosity and sought religious partners. They preferred financially secure partners. They set a higher value on finding partners who were emotionally sensitive and sincere than did the men.
