Bossard, J. H. (1932). Residential propinquity as a factor in marriage selection. American Journal of Sociology38(2), 219-224.

The study examined the cases of thousands of couples who were residents of Philadelphia, USA, and recorded the residential distance between partners before they married. Results showed that one-third of all the couples lived within five or fewer blocks from each other before their marriage. The number of couples in which partners lived farther apart before marriage was substantially smaller.  The author discussed the further possible projects to study this propinquity effect.
