The article examines the territory-based rhetoric of the cultural border, boundaries, and borderlands. It critiques the essentialist view that presumes fixed boundaries for a culture. The author advocates the constructivist view, which assumes that individuals have the power to define and redefine their cultural identities in a multicultural society. In light of this position, the author demonstrates several multicultural makeups. The author shows that Korean immigrants, even though they come from the same country, form their own multiracial identities.
