The author reported a large-scale web-based survey that The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) commissioned to investigate sex differences. The author explained the background and challenges of Web-based testing, the history and motivation for this study, the design and implementation, and ethical and methodological considerations in the research design are all discussed. He also reviewed the many types of data collected from the roughly 255,000 participants, gave some basic demographic information on the BBC sample, and reported the reliability and validity of the data internally, as well as in comparison to other similar studies. He concluded that the dataset was mainly trustworthy, and that the studies presented in this special part were appropriate.
